Music
Rejoice through Music
Music is an offering of praise to God. We give of our talents joyfully, to honor the giver of all gifts. We strive to make our music beautiful, because God deserves no less than our best.
Music plays an important role in our worship and includes anthems, hymns, responses and other forms. The following musical opportunities are available, all under the direction of Janet Montroy.
CHANCEL CHOIR
The Chancel Choir is open to all interested adults and young people grades 7 and above. We rehearse on the first Thursday evening of the month from 7:30-9:15 PM and at 9:15 AM before the Sunday morning service. In preparation for special times, e.g. Christmas and Easter, Rehearsals may be more frequent. The Chancel Choir sings in worship every Sunday except for the month of August. The repertoire performed comes from many musical traditions and periods. Through this diversity we are able to stand in witness with worshipers of every time and place.
The ability to read music is not required, only the ability to sing in tune; the rest comes through rehearsal. It is not necessary that you attend every rehearsal and service, only that you come as often as you are able. The Chancel Choir is a congenial and friendly group, and new member are always welcome.
CHANCEL RINGERS
The adult hand bell group rehearses on Thursday evenings, 6:45-7:30. It performs at Christmas, Easter, and several times throughout the year. A basic knowledge of musical notation is desirable.
JOYFUL NOISE RINGERS
The teen hand bell group rehearses on Sunday mornings 11:30-12:15. It is open to young people in grades 7-12. It performs at regular intervals throughout the year. No prior musical knowledge is necessary
CELEBRATION CHOIR
The Celebration Choir is made up of children in grades 2 through 6. It rehearses on Sunday mornings 11:30-12:15 in alternation with the Joyful Noise Ringers. The Celebration Choir sings during Advent, on Palm Sunday, and in worship several times a year.
